Easter Island – Following the Moai

Our last stop in the Pacific Ocean brought us to Easter Island. It is one of the most remote inhabited locations and famous for its huge Moai statues. Our cosy Airbnb was located in the little capital city Hanga Roa, where most of the people stay.

As the weather was quite rainy for the first days, we decided to rent a car and explore the whole island. During our 5 days stay, we visited all the beautiful Moai locations, amongst them the best conserved ones like Rano Raraku, Ahu Tongariki, Anakena and Ahu Tahai.

Ahu Tongariki is well-known for its gorgeous sunrise and we got up at 5am every morninng to witness one. Unfortunately, most of our days were quite cloudy. We tried the same for the sunset at Ahu Tahai and at least got lucky on our last day. We also celebrated a special day on out trip with a delicious Chilean dinner at the Tahai statue – Brian’s 31st birthday.

Apart from exploring the Moai on land, we also visited the one underwater and were suprised by the variety of gigantic corals and marine life in this cold water.
