Cape Town – the “Mother City”

Cape Town, also known as the Mother City, is located at the foot of one the New 7 Wonders of Nature, the Table Mountain. The impressive rock is visible from almost every corner of the city and keeps taking your breath whenever it comes into sight. We hiked it up and went down with the cable car. The roughly 2 hours hike was tough but absolutely worth it. It’s important to visit the Table Mountain with sunny weather to fully enjoy the impressive panoramic view from the top.

We stayed 5 nights in the guesthouse “Happy Home Woodstock”. In general, Cape Town is not a safe city: criminality is high and there are a lot of pickpockets. Nevertheless, you should not have any problem, if you:

Avoid walking around at night.

Don’t use open ATM’s.

Don’t leave your belongings unattended.

Don’t expose your valuables like expensive mobile phones, jewelry, cameras, etc.

The mean of transport by excellence is Uber. We used it all the time and it worked perfectly. It is very safe and cheaper than a taxi. Busses and trains are in general not considered as safe transport option for tourists.

Some of the highlights we visited are the historic center with visible marks of the Apartheid, V&A Waterfront, Bo Kaap, Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, the southernmost point of the African continent.

Cape Town is well known for its winelands and food culture. If you have the chance to be in town on a Saturday, the Old Biscuit Mill Neighbourgoods Market in Woodstock is definitely a must-do. An incredible mix of African, local and a bit of European food, all delicious and cheap, topped with live music and a very friendly atmosphere. Brian was in heaven 😇!

Below also some pictures of the wildlife we found in South Africa. We are very excited to take the bus to Windhoek (Namibia) tomorrow and to start our Safari!
