Apo Island & Malapascua – a Divers’ Paradise

Our last two stops on the Philippines were Apo Island and Malapascua.

Apo Island is known for its countless sea turtles and colourful reefs and it truly is a divers’ paradise. The island is surrounded by beautiful dive spots and the turtles directly come to say “Hi” to you when entering the water for snorkeling. They can even be spotted directly from the beach, when they come to the surface for some air. During our 3 days stay we hiked around the small island and did two great dives.

We then made our way up to Malapascua, in the far North of Cebu. The tiny island is famous for a special shark species – the Tresher Shark. To enjoy an encounter with these special creatures, you need to get up at 4 am in the morning and dive to their underwater “cleaning station” at 30 metres deep. The sharks come here almost every morning and can be seen in their natural habitat. A great experience!

Apart from the underwater world, Malapascua also offers several coves with splendid beaches.

Awesome people we met

We had a great time diving Apo Island and hanging out while drinking some local rum in the evening with Yuliya and Marc, a German-French and Russian couple. Thank you guys for all the interesting conversation and the countless laughters! Hope to see you soon in Paris 🙂

On Malapascua we met Gemma and Marc, a newlywed couple from Catalonia, Spain. We spend a fantastic time exploring the islands beaches and making our way back to Cebu together. Have a great honeymoon you two!
