Botswana – Where Elephants rule!

After getting in touch with African wildlife for the first time in Namibia, our Safari continued in Botswana, where we headed to Maun. We spent one night in the Delta Rain’s Sitatunga Camp before going into to the Okavango Delta the next day.

Leaving the campsite in Maun, we began our excursion into the Okavango Delta with an open 4×4 truck to the Mokoro station. We travelled by Mokoro (small and thin canoes) amongst tall grass channels to our tented camp.

During our Mokoro Ride and Walking Safaris in the Delta we saw lots of hippos and zebras, some giraffes, baboons and buffalos. The campsite in the delta is located right next to the water and we could hear the hippos’ calls over the whole night.

Our second stop was Elephant Sands, where we spotted herds of elephants. They can roam freely trough the whole campsite and it is impressive to have this huge animals just right next to you and to see them walking around without making any noise when placing their heavy feet on the ground. We had a fabulous grilled dinner in the bush, with nothing else than wild animals around, an amazing experience!

We continued our journey to the last stop in Botswana: Chobe National Park. In comparison to Etosha in Namibia, which is quite dry, there is lots of vegetation and water in Chobe. We had the chance to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffalos, “pumbas”, impalas and colorful birds during our truck safari and a very nice sunset boat cruise.

The food in Botswana was similar to the one in Namibia and throughout the whole safari. Very nice meals with lots of variety of game meat including kudu, oryx, springbok and zebra. Perfect for all meatlovers!
