Colombia – Popayan, Cali and the coffee region

When arriving to Colombia we made our way directly to Popayan – the white city. It is the hometown of Rafa and his heartwarming family, where we stayed for a little more than a week to spend Christmas with the Guevaras and explore the region.

Popayan is a beautiful city with an old city center surrounded by green valleys and mountains. Rafa and his family guided us through the city and took us to Silvia to visit the indigenious village Guambia and get to know the Misak culture. We also got the chance to explore the Puracé National Park with its wild condors and sulfur rivers together.

After a lovely week and Christmas celebration with the Guevara family, we made our way to Cali to visit the annual “Feria” festival. This was also the place where we met up with Carlos, Massimo and Nadia, who flew over to spend their vacation with us. We were more than looking forward to be with our friends after such a long time and very happy to see them. As cherry on top they brought someone else with them: Sarah’s sister Rebecca came as a suprise guest and we could not believe our eyes when she walked right into our room!

The next stop after Cali was a huge “Finca” in the coffee region to celebrate New Year’s Eve together. Before starting the party on 31st December we took the day to visit Salento and the nearby Cocora Valley. A stunning place with endless green valleys, tropical forests and huge palm trees.
