Namibia – Welcome to the African Savanna

To get to Namibia, we hopped on an Intercape bus and took a 23-hours drive from Cape Town to Windhoek. It is one of the smallest capital cities we have seen so far with around 200.000 inhabitants only. We stayed 2 nights in the Chameleon Backpackers Hostel were we enjoyed the open pool area, a nice typical dinner and the rich included breakfast. During our time there we participated in a very interesting Free Walking Tour with lots of historical facts and visited the National Museum, which is for free and offers a nice view over the city and delicious coffee in its restaurant on top.

We took a shuttle from Windhoek to Swakopmund where we started our adventure “Safari” with a group of friends from Germany. It was great to see these familiar faces :)!

Our 12-days safari through Namibia, Botswana and Zambia was prebooked and fully organized including accommodation in tents, transport and most of the meals. We chose Acacia Africa as safari agency and were more than happy with them! We were very well taken care of by our guide Justin and our driver Elias.

Our first stop was a basic campsite without electricity or water on the foot of Spitzkoppe mountain. The night sky there is breathtaking and Brian and the guys even managed to sleep some hours on the rock under the stars before the picking up wind forced them into the tents.

It was followed by fascinating wildlife experiences during 2 days in the Etosha National Park. With the truck and the 4×4 jeeps we got the chance to spot Springboks, oryx, impalas, giraffes, wildebeests, chakals, zebras, black rhinos and lions in their natural habitat.

And off we went to Botswana…
