Once back from our great Fraser Island trip, we drove our campervan further North and passed many beautiful spots like Bundaberg, which is famous for its ginger beer and rum, the historic Town of 1770 and Agnes Water, the last place up North where you can surf. So we took the chance to participate in a surf lesson and test these Australian waves. And we met Simon & Kristina again =).
After 2 days of relaxed driving we arrived to Cape Hillsborough, a remote placed with long, calm beaches. Every morning, the beaches become busy for sunrise as more and more kangaroos show up to start their day here. A beautiful experience!
Our next stop was Airlie Beach, the gateway to the popular Whitsunday Islands. We parked our van for several days and were received by Claudia, a friend from Vilafranca, who is currently working on Hamilton Island. She invited us to stay with her and we enjoyed the island life with Claudia and her boyfriend Urko to the fullest! Thank you guys :)! Hamilton Island is also a good starting point for several Whitsundays tours. We took a boat tour to the splendid Whitehaven Beach and a diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef.
As both places where already stunning on the ground, we decided to complete our Whitsundays experience with a scenic flight – definitely one of our highlights! The views were just breathtaking!
We continued our way along the coast stopping in Townsville to cross over to Magentic Island with its wild koala population and in Mission Beach to find some wild cassowaries. After this first taste of rainforest in Mission Beach, we passed Cairns and took the ferry to the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. A beautiful national park with lots of untouched rainforest, great boardwalks and countless animal species to discover. During our 2 days here we took a night walk through the rainforest and a crocodile cruise on the river. Unfortunately, we did not see any of the big saltwater crocodiles, but at least a baby one.
When we finally arrived to Cairns on 31st October, we had to give back our beloved campervan and installed ourselves in a nice hostel to celebrate Halloween. We had a great night with our new friend Cesar from Madrid. Thanks mate! We spend our last 6 days in the city before taking of to our next destination: Fiji…
